United Arab Emirates
Dubai

26 hours in Dubai.
landed 0500. Later took shuttle from hotel, but it only went to a nice white beach, yawn, we have beaches in New Zealand. Made me miss the NZ summer though. Taxi ride to Emirates Mall, crazy driving - lots of cutting off and honking horns, disregard for lanes and squeezing into gaps that aren't there, but it seems they expect each other to drive this way so don't get road rage. They should.
The mall was big. Big. had it's own indoor ski-slope. Another taxi ride -this one more frightening than the last - to the famous Gold souk. With all the bargains around I managed to save a lot of money, by not buying anything. Hey -what do I need gold for? bling? No. Wandered the surrounding area for a while.
Across Dubai Creek on one of the small ferries and into the old city for night markets. After the ferry back walked a few miles to my hotel through market streets, though the closer I got to the hotel the dodgier the area seemed to become - you get that with cheap hotels. Good to keep it real and rub shoulders with the working class though eh....

been there, done that...

A day at the markets.
some sneaky shots of the locals going about their daily business.

Ferry across the creek to Bur Dubai (the old town)
